Build your own dashboard
You can build a dashboard over your Monotree data without being a developer. Start from Monotree's dashboard template, and let an AI assistant set it up and shape it to what you want to see. It runs on your own Cloudflare account, and employees open it from a link in the Monotree app, already signed in.
How it works
- Employees sign in with Monotree. They tap a link in the Monotree app and land on the dashboard with no login prompt. You decide who may open it: everyone, admins, managers, or members of a group. People who leave the company lose access on the day they leave.
- The data comes from the Open API, through a key that stays on the server. The page only receives the numbers it shows.
- What people see can depend on who they are. The example shows each manager the departments they manage, next to the whole company.
- You host it, on Cloudflare. The free plan is enough. Your Cloudflare account then holds a copy of the figures the dashboard shows, so check that this fits your data-protection agreements.
What you need
- An AI assistant that can work on your computer, such as Claude Code, Cursor or Codex. A chat window alone can't download and deploy things.
- A Cloudflare account. The assistant helps you create one.
- A Monotree admin, to create an API key and add the dashboard to the app.
- About half an hour, plus a reply from Monotree, which registers the dashboard for sign-in.
Get started
Paste this into your assistant:
Set up a Monotree dashboard for me from https://github.com/monotreedk/dashboard-starter.
Follow its SETUP.md.The assistant:
- downloads the template and signs you in to Cloudflare
- asks what the dashboard should show and who should see it
- puts a first version online
- writes the email for you to send to Monotree, asking to register the dashboard for sign-in
- tells you where to create the API key, and where to enter it and the client secret from Monotree in Cloudflare, so neither passes through the chat
- finishes the setup, and tells your Monotree admin how to add the dashboard to the app's menu
After that, describe changes in plain words, for example "add a chart of onboarding completion per month", and the assistant builds and publishes them.
Good to know
- Ask for numbers, not people. A dashboard is easiest to keep safe when it shows counts and rates. If it has to show named employees, limit who may open it.
- Give the API key only what the dashboard reads. The example needs the scopes
read:statsandread:groups. - Changes in Monotree reach the dashboard at the next sign-in. For example, someone becoming a manager. A sign-in lasts up to 8 hours, and opening the dashboard from the app signs in again silently.
